- The present State Police system was constructed in 1974. A new statewide multi-agency digital VHF system has been discussed by the State Radio Advisory Board.
- Regional PD Nets were established to improve communications between local and county departments and the State Police. They presently see limited use and some are apparently inactive. Most inter-agency traffic is on Statewide Car to Car (154.695 MHz).
- Maine Forest Service Rangers are dispatched over the Forestry repeater system from three regional headquarters: Augusta, Old Town & Ashland. Rangers respond to all woods fires of significance.
