MSCOMMNET / Maine State Communications Network

  • MSCOMMNET is the new statewide radio/mobile data network that will replace several existing systems, including those of the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Maine State Forestry, Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Emergency Management Agency, Maine Department of Corrections, MDEA, and some smaller state agencies.
  • Harris (former Tyco-M/A Comm/former Ericson, former GE) has been selected as the primary vendor
  • The system will largely be a digital, P25-IP, trunked VHF system with encryption capability
  • Each system site will also have a conventional "RegionNet" interoperability repeater.
  • Completion date is now slated to be the Summer of 2013; existing conventional channels will be narrowbanded Summer/Fall 2012.

  • Sites listed in the 11/2011 frequency plan are shown in the table below. Due to numerous changes in this plan, only repeater output frequencies that are actually licensed are shown.
  • Sites are now planned to have 2 to 4 repeaters plus a RegionNet interoperability repeater.
  • As many as 17 sites are also planned to have a one-way analog simulcast of that area's primary SP talkgroup to allow county/local public safety agencies to monitor them.
  • Several solar-powered sites will be established as conventional repeaters to eliminate the need for a continuous trunking control channel.
